Chapter Thirty Nine: The Taxonomy Alert

Code Purple has been raised by the Tower of Taxonomy, the highest alert possible in the peacekeeping duties of the established taxonomy system. The President of the Scientific Council was already heavily involved in the issue, as unresolved cases of murders keep piling up with no leads and no trace of proof as to who may be behind these ruthless killings.

The possibility of a serial killer at large is one of the angles being pursued by the most dedicated Taxonomists, while the Physics Police was tracing any possible suspicious motion left by the murderer that could be captured by the motion sensors throughout the various edifices from where the crime scenes are actually committed.

While the mysterious identity of this unlikely killer keeps unraveling with no solid clue or indication that could point to a credible lead, the legislators of the Scientific Assembly are demanding answers from the Tower of Taxonomy, invoking their oversight powers by convening committee hearings that could possible result to heads rolling within the competent ranks of the Tower of Taxonomy.

The President of the Scientific Council has expressed publicly that his trust and confidence to his own Commissioner of the Effects of Law has never waivered despite calls from angry politicians that he must vacate his post for "deliberately abandoning his solemn duty to protect the peace largely by virtue of his own demerits and incompetence." However, a judicial determination may be necessary for the Assemblymen to actually impeach the Commissioner and remove him from his good office.

Many strongly worded editorials from authoritative papers followed swiftly after the President has spoken about his stand in the current issue, critical of his decision to stick with the vested interests of his own "elite club" and putting aside the main interest of the law in exchange for "political favor" and insist in his own "loyalty to his closest friends in the Council." As the issue becomes politically charged, and slowly drifting away from the predicate issue of failing to enforce the law, the President has promised to convene the Titular Ezra Dunster High Commission to discuss "all possibilities that can be discussed to competently address the present crisis."

Other than that important development, there are no other details available as of press time.

For the many who were fully educated scholars in the Sovereign See of Dunster, this political gesture is ordinarily tantamount to saying that the Titular Commission will declare an indefinite martial law in order to address public clamor for the Scientific Council in maintaining public safety.

Meanwhile, the Literary Committee is rallying its own ranks with the same effect. They, too, are interested in catching this culprit.

As the political actors are scrambling to address a very unlikely conflict that could result to a severely huge and unprecedented political costs to the party in power, the Killer in question was having his morning coffee in that early crisp autumn morning, with his favorite newspaper in hand, and secretly smirking behind the wide newsprint as the predicate chaos he had planned a long time ago was finally starting to unfold.

It was too thrilling to watch those in power desperately trying to save their political future. It was quite an amazing feeling for him, to see all of them worried of what will happen next.
